"Welcome to the Computer Science Program at the University of Illinois at Springfield. We look forward to your arrival for the spring 2009 semester. We would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about the Master’s Degree in Computer Science Program requirements. To find out more about our faculty and the program please visit our website at http://csc.uis.edu/.
You will be required to complete 32 credit hours of work. This is equal to 8 courses. You will need to complete four courses at the 500 level, three courses at either the 400 or 500 level, and finally CSC 540 Graduate Research Seminar. Our curriculum stands out from other universities in many ways.
First, you pick seven out of the eight courses you take, which gives you freedom in your studies.
Second, our program can be completed in one calendar year. Based on your Admission documents, if you would complete 3 courses in the spring, 2 courses in the summer, and 3 courses in the fall you will be eligible to graduate in December of 2009.
Third, our program does not require you to complete a thesis or graduate project. This is an option you may choose but it is not required.
Possible Internships and Assistantships
There are opportunities for international students to participate in work-study programs that pay for your tuition. These are the Graduate Assistantship Program and the Graduate Public Service Intern Program. You may apply and interview for these programs and if accepted you will have your tuition paid for and a monthly stipend for living expenses. For more information on these programs please visit their websites: http://www.uis.edu/graduateassistantships/ and http://cspl.uis.edu/graduateinternprograms/
